Ninevah Christian Church has a rich history rooted in the Christian Restoration Movement, which sought to bring unity among believers by following the example of the New Testament church as described in Acts. The church’s origins date back to 1871, when it first opened its doors as Providence Church, located about a mile down Ninevah Road. The original building still stands today as a reminder of the church’s humble beginnings.
Around 1878, a post office was established in the church building, and it was named Ninevah Post Office. Not long after, the church took on the name "Ninevah," which has remained ever since. This name carries with it a sense of history and connection to the surrounding community, as Ninevah became both a place of worship and a central point for local life.
In 1998, Ninevah Christian Church moved to its current location at Three Corners, where the congregation has continued to grow and expand its reach. As the church's ministry flourished, it became necessary to expand its physical space to accommodate the increasing number of attendees. In 2006, the church added a fellowship hall, a kitchen, church offices, and second-floor educational rooms to meet the needs of its growing congregation.
Further expansion came in 2011 with the addition of a new sanctuary and dedicated children's area, reflecting the church’s commitment to nurturing spiritual growth for all ages. Each of these additions has allowed Ninevah Christian Church to continue reaching more people in the community, creating space for worship, fellowship, and ministry.
From its early days as Providence Church to its present-day vibrant congregation, Ninevah Christian Church has seen God’s faithfulness at work. The church’s commitment to unity, biblical teaching, and community service has played an integral role in its growth. Today, Ninevah continues to be a place where God’s presence is felt and lives are transformed, as the church looks forward to continuing its mission of serving and sharing the love of Christ in Anderson County and beyond.
